The unusual spring weather, first warm then cool and rainy again, seems to have finally yielded to spring. Many of the fruit trees are starting to flower - the cherry has already shed it's blossoms - and we have started harvest!
In this section of the news, we'll alert you to what's harvesting. That in turn gives some idea as to what will be available at market.
Harvesting now - asparagus
Planting is also starting! The snow peas are up and it's time for the cool weather crops to go in - potatoes, onion, broccoli family and the peas. For the most part we are following the garden plan with minor changes. After discovering the small animals had "harvested" and moved a number of onion starts to the woods edge and stone wall last spring, the onions will be moved from the garden they seem to favor back to the main garden in the hopes that we have more onions in the fall. We wondered last year why so many "died"! The plan is to take advantage of their replanting and let the onion go to seed that we'll save.
